1. What is a story?

A story is like a series of connected chapters that tell an exciting tale. There are endless possibilities for creating different stories. For example, you could write a story about two friends becoming lovers or enemies.

2. What are branching and linear stories?

Branching stories and linear stories are two different ways to tell a tale:

1. Linear stories: These are like straight roads with one clear path. The plot moves in a single direction from beginning to end, without any major choices or deviations. It's a straightforward, uninterrupted narrative.

2. Branching stories: These are like a network of paths where the plot can take different directions based on choices or decisions made by characters or readers. It allows for multiple possible outcomes and different storylines depending on the choices made.

In summary, linear stories have one fixed path, while branching stories have multiple paths and possible outcomes based on choices.

3. What is a chapter?

A chapter consists of messages.

The chapter's number is automatically assigned according to its order in the story.

4. What is a message?

Messages are the building blocks and play a pivotal role in your story, they may be a single message or consist of a list of choices with actions.

5. What is a choice?

A choice is a list of options the player can pick from, which can contain actions. You can create between 2 and 4 choices.

6. What is an action?

An action is what occurs when the player chooses a choice.

Here, you can decide what action should follow. You have two options: You can leave it as "none," which means the story will just continue to the next message.
Alternatively, you can specify a particular message or chapter where the player will be taken next.

7. What does draft, unpublished, and published?

Draft: When creating a story, it automatically becomes a draft. Which is a preliminary or early version of your story. It's not the final version, and you can make changes before it's completed.
If there is already an unpublished or published story, you can still make revisions to your draft, these changes will not reflect on your unpublished or published story until you replace it.

Unpublished: If you create an unpublished story, say for example because you want to share it only with a friend or because you want to see what it looks like, it becomes an unpublished story, which means it has not been officially released or made available to the general public. It remains private, but you can share it with a limited group or individual. You cannot edit the content of the story, but you can still edit the title, summary, full description, and image.

Published: This is the final stage. This means the story has been officially released or made accessible to the general public. It is now available for others to view, download and read. In this stage, you cannot edit anything, and would either need to unpublish or replace your story with a new revision.

You can publish and unpublish your story as many times as you want, just know that if someone has the link to your story or has already downloaded your story they can still access it, or rather an older revision you published.

8. What happens to my story if I delete the app or switch my device?

No worries, your story is synced with the cloud, meaning it was automatically saved and can be recovered either after deleting the app or switching devices.

When you are switching devices you should sign in with the provider you used previously (Apple, Google, or Discord) so that you can still recover your story. If this is not possible, please contact support: [email protected]

Note: If you edited the story offline, the revisions you made will not reflect upon the cloud save. As such, after going back online, we highly recommend manually syncing your story with the cloud. This can be done by either, continuing to edit the story while being online, or by clicking the cloud icon which has an arrow pointing up.

9. What happens if I delete my story.

We make sure to give you plenty of warnings before you can permanently delete your story. This is to prevent accidental deletions.

However, if you still choose to delete your story (this includes your cloud save) please be aware that it will be gone forever and cannot be recovered!

10. What does cloud save mean?

Cloud save refers to the practice of storing your data remotely, allowing you to access and synchronize across multiple devices over the internet.

Put simply, it acts like a mirror of your story. This means that if you delete the app or change to another device, you can still get your story back. Remember, it's not meant to be used as a backup.

11. How do I share my story?

12. What does ”Local Image Scanning” mean?

Only available on Apple devices running iOS/iPadOS 17.0+.

Local Image Scanning utilises Apple's Sensitive Content Analysis Framework, which works by using a machine learning model to analyze images and videos for NSFW content.

If you turn this on, the content you try upload gets analyzed locally.

If you leave this off, the content gets analyzed by our own cloud based model.
